Why we desex kittens before they go home — and why it matters

Many new owners are surprised to learn that their kitten will be desexed before coming home. Early-age desexing (spaying or neutering from 12 weeks of age) is a standard and highly recommended practice among ethical pedigree cat breeders.

    The Veterinary Evidence

Studies have shown that early desexing is safe. Kittens recover from anaesthesia and surgery quickly. The tissues heal fast, and they are usually bouncing around the next day.

    Preventing Unplanned Litters

The primary reason breeders desex early is to protect the breed and prevent unplanned or unethical breeding. It ensures that our kittens live their lives as beloved family companions, which is exactly what they are raised for.

    Benefits for the Owner

For you, it means one less major expense and stressful veterinary visit during your kitten's first year. You also don't have to worry about the behavioural issues associated with intact cats developing before you get around to booking the surgery.
