British coat colours explained: blue, bi-colour, colourpoint and beyond

British Shorthairs and Longhairs come in a beautiful range of colours and patterns. At Cattuna Cattery, we focus on a select few lines, but we love the diversity of the breed.

    Solid Colours

The classic British look — blue is the most iconic, but blacks and other solids are just as striking. The coat should be sound to the roots with no shading or markings.

    Bi-Colours

Bi-colours feature a solid colour combined with white, like blue and white. The white markings should be clear and evenly distributed, giving a smart, tuxedo-like appearance.

    Colourpoint

Colourpoint British cats have a lighter body with darker points on the face, ears, legs and tail, often paired with striking blue eyes. They are among the most sought-after patterns in the breed.

    What's Coming

From 2027, we're also planning black silver tabbies and lilac kittens — bringing even more variety to our breeding programme.
